Volume 17

Asirpa and his friends are shot by Russian border guards and flee into the forest. Overtime of the Russo-Japanese War takes place between Vasili the Sniper and Ogata. Asirpa finds Iliya, and he shows them Kiroranke’s wanted list. Asirpa and her friends learn that Kiroranke and Wilk are assassins of the Russian Emperor.
Sugimoto and his friends are caught in a blizzard as they chase. Sergeant Tsukishima and Second Lieutenant Koito, who arrived at the hut first, were allowed to use the lighthouse, and the shipwrecked Sugimoto, Tanigaki, and Cikapashi were able to save their lives. When Sugimoto learns that the only daughter of an elderly couple living in the lighthouse is missing, he says he will search for her in return for his help.
Asirpa and her friends head to Port to meet Sophia, a female prisoner who knows Wilk well and is the mastermind behind the emperor’s assassination.

Volume 18

Hijikata and Ushiyama, who were chasing prisoner Wanichiro Sekiya, go missing around Lake Akan in Hokkaido. Sekiya is a cunning man who specializes in poisoning, and tells Hijikata that he has kidnapped Ushiyama, and tells Ushiyama that he has kidnapped Hijikata.He makes them both drink poison and buries them alive, but Ushiyama escapes on his own.
Kadokura and Kiraushi, former chief guards of Abashiri Prison, go to look for them. In order to help Hijikata, Kadokura plays poisonous Russian roulette with Sekiya. Kadokura drinks aconite poison, and Sekiya goes to help Hijikata as promised.
Sugimoto and his friends have arrived near Ako Prison.
Asiripa and his friends were in the village of the Nivkh tribe, and Kiroranke was making plans to escape from the prison with Sophia from the Ako Prison. Kiroranke talks about how he, Wilk, and Sofia learned Japanese from a Japanese man named “Hasegawa”, and that they parted ways with Sofia and headed to Hokkaido.
The long-awaited drift ice arrives, and the prison break begins.

Volume 19

They set off an explosion with explosives, allowing Sophia and the other prisoners to escape. Sophia and Asiripa meet and run away together.
Long ago, Sophia grew up in a wealthy family, and she met Wilk and Kiroranke in the revolutionary movement.”Wilk” means wolf in Polish, and hearing the story of the origin of her name reminds Asirpa of something important.
Ogata takes Asiripa to look for her driftwood. Ogata tries to get the key to unlocking tattoo from Asiripa. Realizing that her Ogata is lying, Asiripa draws her bow and threatens her Ogata. Sugimoto then appears, and Asiripa is surprised and hits Ogata in the eye with a poisoned arrow. Sugimoto quickly pulls out the arrow and sucks out the poison. Ogata survived.
Meanwhile, Kiroranke goes looking for Asiripa and runs into Tanigaki. The two fight, but Tanigaki stabs Kiroranke, and Kiroranke runs away. Asiripa runs up to Kiroranke, who has been shot and collapsed. When Asiripa tells him that he remembered the key to the location of the gold nugget, he dies relieved.

Volume 20

Sugimoto returns Makiri to Asiripa and renews his “partner” contract. Sergeant Tsukishima and Ogata can be seen by a doctor at the Nivuh village near Ako. Ogata’s surgery was successful, but Ogata managed to escape. Ogata speaks Russian, and in his words, the past is told about why Second Lieutenant Koito was attracted to Lieutenant Tsurumi.
At Noboribetsu Onsen in Hokkaido, Special Sergeant Major Kikuta and Private First Class Ariko, who were healing in the hot springs, investigate Private First Class Usami and First Class Nikaido about tattooed skin. Toni was hiding in Noboribetsu as Anma and was passing information on the 7th Division to Hijikata, but Kikuta found out that he was a prisoner and attacked him. Although Toni managed to escape, he was buried in an avalanche caused by Ariko, a Noboribetsu Ainu.


Volume 21

Shiraishi is suddenly shot in the leg in Sakhalin’s Shizuka. The culprit is a Russian soldier, Vasili, and that Kiroranke died and Ogata ran away, but Vasili chases after Asiripa and the others.
They headed south through Sakhalin and stayed in Toyohara until he was picked up. Asiripa meets Katsutaro Inaba, who has been photographing Ainu culture using cinematographs, and begins filming Ainu folk tales. After the screening, Asiripa says that she wants to fight to preserve Ainu culture, and Sugimoto says that he cannot forgive Wilk and his friends for creating a situation where the only option is to “fight and protect.”
Meanwhile, in Noboribetsu, Kikuta and Ariko show Toni’s tattooed human skin to Lieutenant Tsurumi, and Ariko steals five pieces of tattooed human skin from Lieutenant Tsurumi and hands them to Hijikata. Lieutenant Tsurumi purposely gave him a fake, but Hijikata saw through it and is happy that he was able to recover the fake.
Lieutenant Tsurumi comes to Oodomari. Asiripa asks Lieutenant Tsurumi about the future of the Ainu. Asiripa shoots all the arrows into the air and escapes with Sugimoto while everyone else avoids them.

Volume 22

Asiripa and Sugimoto decide to search for gold alone. They make an enemy the 7th Division and begin their escape. Vasili (the hooded boy) appears and helps the two escape. Shiraishi and the four of us board a ferry and try to escape from Sakhalin. Although they boarded the ship, Lieutenant Tsurumi noticed the gunshots and began pursuing them with a destroyer. Before they can catch up, the four get off the ship and escape on foot on the ice floes. I happened to meet an Ainu on a small boat, and I returned to Hokkaido.
Ogata negotiates with the captain of the Sakhalin ferry, safely boards the ship, and begins tracking Asiripa and his friends.
Having trouble with money, Sugimoto and his friends go out to pan for gold and meet Heita Matsuda. Sugimoto and Shiraishi look up to Heita as their mentor and learn how to mine for gold from him, but Heita warns them about the existence of Wenkamui (bears). Heita has multiple personalities and attacks Sugimoto wearing a brown bear’s fur. When Sugimoto resisted, he shot himself with a poisoned arrow from an Amappo (self-firing bow and arrow) and committed suicide.

Volume 23

After parting ways with Asiripa and the others, Tanigaki tells Lieutenant Tsurumi that he is stepping down from “the gold nugget competition”, but Tsurumi threatens that “if he takes Asiripa back, Tanigaki and Inkaramat, who is also pregnant, will be released”.
Ogata returns to Hijikata. Kadokura hears from his fellow guards that Boutarou Kaizoku has started moving.
Asiripa and his friends obtain Heita’s tattooed human skin and get a hint to capture Kaizoku from his luggage.
A series of murders occur in Sapporo, targeting only prostitutes. From Hijikata’s camp and Lieutenant Tsurumi, Special Sergeant Major Kikuta and Private First Class Usami head to Sapporo.
Tanigaki goes to pick up Inkaramat at the hospital in Otaru. He is about to be killed by Sergeant Tsukishima. With Ienaga’s help, they manage to escape. On the way, Inkaramak’s water breaks, but she manages to reach Asiripa’s Fuchi house and gives birth safely with the help of Sergeant Tsukishima and Ensign Koito, who have been chasing her.

Volume 24

Second Lieutenant Koito and Sergeant Tsukishima decide to let Tanigaki and his friends escape. Koito urges Tsukishima to have positive faith in Lieutenant Tsurumi.
Asiripa and his friends follow the clues left by Heita and meet a candy vendor with a strange tattoo on his face, and there is a scene where he says the name of the prisoner, Boss Wakayama, but the details remain a mystery.
Asiripa and his friends try to take a boat down the Ishikari River to Ebetsu. By chance, Boutarou Kaizoku and his friends attack the ship that Asiripa and his friends are on. Sugimoto teams up with Kaizoku who may have discovered “the place where the Ainu first hid their gold”.
In Sapporo, Kikuta and Usami pursue the murderer, but in the end they are unable to catch him. Kikuta meets First Class Ariko, a double agent for Lieutenant Tsurumi and Hijikata’s party, and offers him to join him as a spy for the central government.
