This is the story of a living doll girl, Emilico, and her master, the faceless Shadow Kate, who struggle to take back the shadow house created by their powerful enemy, the Great Grandfather.
Thoughts
A mystery that begins with the existence of “morphs”. You can be excited to see who is the enemy depending on your point of view. It’s also heartwarming to see Kate and Emilico’s efforts increasing their number of friends. I’m looking forward to seeing what will happen if Kate’s ambition comes true, will they be able to coexist?
The first season of the anime and the manga progress in different ways, so the differences are also interesting.

Emilico, a living doll, struggles every day to help Kate. Shadow, a child, is not allowed to leave her room, but Emilico interacts with other living dolls through cleaning, and she learns many things from Kate and grows up. Emilico’s positive brightness gradually changes Kate.

Emilico learns about the mansion from Rosemary and Mia outside the room. They are then informed about the “unveiling”, a ritual that tests the aptitude of shadows and living dolls.
A bell rings indicating the appearance of a ghost (a collection of little soot ghosts), and Rosemary becomes sick with sooty disease, but Emilico and her friends fight off the ghost. Due to this incident, Emilico, Ram, and Sean are ordered by Barbie to patrol late at night.
While patrolling late at night, Emilico and her friends encounter an unidentified shadow wearing a hood and discover the cause of the ghost’s appearance.
And now the unveiling begins…
Volume 3
The main event will be the unveiling ceremony for Emilico and her friends. In this ritual, five people, Emilico, Lou, Ricky, Sean, and Ram, choose one of the tools presented and tackle the task of rescuing their master, Shadow.
However, this test has fixed race set up by Edward, the test tube, and the test is being monitored by people on the “3rd floor”. Louise, Lou’s master, is rescued smoothly, and Patrick, Ricky’s master, is anxious but trusts Ricky and waits. Shaun’s master, John, escapes on his own by acting without rules, and Kate is thinking about various things, and Shadow’s personality is revealed as well.

Volume 4

It depicts the process of the pair Emilico and Kate passing the set exam. Their test is intentionally set to be difficult to pass, but Emilico uses her natural strength of mind and physical strength to rescue Kate. They use wheelbarrows to race through waterways and barely reach the finish line. Meanwhile, the pair of Ram and Shirley suffer a tragedy when Shirley extinctions just before they reach the goal.
At the party after the unveiling, special drinks will be served to the living dolls, except Ram. This drink is the sooty coffee of “the Great Grandfather”, the head of the Shadows, and after drinking it, the living dolls become dominated by their loyalty to the Shadows. It is here that Shadow’s true identity is revealed to be “Morph”, a parasitic fairy who specializes in mimicry and imitation, and that the living doll is used as a tool to give Morph a personality. It is shown that the Shadow House is actually a facility that abducts human children, brainwashes them, and uses them as tools for the Shadow.
Volume 5
An event called “Joy Party” will be held. In the midst of this, a character named Rosemary, who is suffering from sooty disease, and a collection of large soot ghosts appear, causing a huge panic among the living dolls.
Emilico and her friends manage to repel the ghosts using a giant soot collecting machine developed by Oliver, one of the four stars, and his “face” Olly. However, the joy is short-lived when Belle, the twin doll, breaks Grandpa’s soot-filled coffee.
In order to find out who is behind this commotion, Kate and her friends work together with her classmates to get closer to the truth.

Volume 6
Kate forms a group with John, Patrick, and Louise and works to solve the mystery. They consider the Shadows, who have a lot of soot, as prime suspects, but John’s investigation reveals that even with a lot of soot, ghosts cannot be created. And Shadow, who is wearing a robe, is considered a suspicious presence.
The culprits were Marie-Rose and Rosemary, who had soot disease. They learned about the structure of the Shadow House and were about to rebel. It becomes clear that excessive brainwashing has been carried out in order to create a ritual in which the living doll and Shadow become one. This unification ritual was for Shadow to take over the body of a living doll.
Kate and John win the battle against Marie-Rose and the others and hand them over to the Stars.

Kate and Emilico, along with Barbara Barbie, will be taking part in handing over Marie Rose and the others. Reminiscences of the past begin.
After Barbara and Marie-Rose pass the unveiling, under the influence of a shadow named Christopher, the stars become leaders in educating the children.
The situation changes completely when Christopher was invited to “be the building with the grandfather”. Anthony runs away and finds out that the “be invited to the building with the grandfather” is unify, Shadow and a living doll. Marie-Rose has always been passionate about education, but she can’t bear to sacrifice Rosemary for the sake of her own life, so she breaks up with Barbara.
And now. In the middle of the glorious corridor. As soon as he enters “the building with the old man,” Marie-Rose sends out a ghost and attacks Edward. However, he is defeated by Edward’s sooty ability and throws himself down the hallway.
The squad is reorganized and Kate finally becomes the squad leader.
Volume 8
Edward, who suspects there are rebels, comes to inspect the children’s wing. Edward has harsh words for Sarah and Douglas. However, this is because he wants to see soot ability, and he says that he actually values their abilities highly, and sympathizes with them who are dissatisfied with the current status of “stars”. Sarah and Douglas promise to help Edward and tell him that they broke the “special coffee”.
Emilico collapses and Kate notices that the effects of her “special coffee” are wearing off. So Kate sneaks into the “Star Living Tower” to replace the coffee beans in order to ruin her joy party.
